The valve design on the packaging is a safe locking feature, locking the jar in place and is shockproof. Also serves as a retainer if you use a jar size that is slightly shorter than the size description (recommended ~5mm). Make sure the size of the jar you are using first, make sure it fits (different brands of jars tend to have different sizes).
